Our Alliances

"Leave this world a little better than you found it"

Those were words spoken by Robert Baden-Powell. At Lalande Managed Forest, we subscribe strongly to that principle and that is why we have both memeberships and partnerships with organiations that we feel will help us fulfill that mandate.

Ontario Woodlot Association

The Ontario Woodlot Association (OWA) is a not-for-profit grassroots organisation governed by an elected, volunteer board of directors. Their members own and manage woodlots throughout the province and include individuals and organisations. The OWA believes that private landowners have a key role to play to ensure that sustainably managed forests remain a part of Ontario’s future.

Its vision is that healthy and productive forests will always be part of Ontario’s landscape. All Ontarians will recognize the importance of maintaining healthy and productive forests on private lands. Woodlot owners will be acknowledged and supported in their role as the caretakers of this valuable resource and natural heritage. The OWA"s mission promotes the sustainable management of Ontario's privately owned forests by providing its members with guidance and advice, and by representing their interests through a united provincial voice. The OWA works to ensure that Ontario’s privately owned forests will always contribute to the health of our society, our environment and Ontario's economy.

Eastern Ontario Model Forest

Lalande Managed Forest became a Model Forest in the early 2000's.

As one of 15 model forests in the Canadian Model Forest Network, the Eastern Ontario Model Forest works with government, landowners, industry, First Nations, non-government organizations and others to develop new ways to sustain and manage our forest resources. The EOMF champions the belief that we all have a stake in ensuring that the environmental, economic, cultural and social values of eastern Ontario's forests are maintained for the benefit of all, now and in the future. The EOMF, a not-for-profit, charitable organization, is proud to be a participant in the Forest Communities Program.

Ontario Wood

Lalande Managed Forest became a partner with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources in March 2014 to help promote Ontario forest products.

When you choose Ontario Wood, you’re not just making the best choice for building a deck, installing a new floor, or renovating your kitchen; you’re making the best choice for all of us. That’s because Ontario's forest industry provides thousands of jobs and sustains hundreds of communities across the province. On top of that, Ontario Wood products are high-quality and cost-competitive and enjoy an excellent reputation around the world.  “Ontario Wood” is an initiative to help you identify and purchase locally made Ontario Wood products. Whether you are a consumer, builder, designer or architect, look for the leaf to be sure it’s Ontario Wood.

Forest Stewardship Council

As a certified managed forest and part of the Eastern Ontario Model Forest, FSC is an international certification and labeling system dedicated to promoting responsible forest management of the world’s forests.

This means that forests are evaluated to meet FSC’s strict international environmental and social standards. Forest products from certified forests is tracked all the way to the consumer through the FSC Chain of Custody system. FSC-certified wood, paper and other forest products are then sold with the FSC label by certified companies in the marketplace.

FSC enables businesses and consumers to make informed choices about the forest products they buy, and create positive change to keep our forests healthy for generations to come. FSC enables businesses and consumers to make informed choices about the forest products they buy, and create positive change to keep our forests healthy for generations to come.

In addition, Lalande Managed Forest took the certification one step further and in March 2015, all maple products became FSC certified.

Ducks Unlimited Canada

Lalande Managed Forest entered an agreement with Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) in the 1990's to help increase wetland and waterfowl habitat. Three controlled weirs exist on the property, ensuring health wildlife habitat.

Since 1938, DUC has been working with farmers, ranchers, partners and government to ensure that landowners are rewarded for the environmental benefits of their operations. Whether you want to leave a natural legacy, restore wetlands, plant winter wheat or simply find natural solutions to improve your bottom line, DUC has programs and experts that can help.

Rainforest Alliance

Lalande Managed Forest signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Eastern Ontario Model Forest in March 2015 certifying our maple syrup and maple products as FSC and Ranforest Alliance certified. The Rainforest Alliance works to conserve biodiversity and ensure sustainable livelihoods by transforming land-use practices, business practices and consumer behavior.  It works with forward-thinking farmers, foresters and tourism entrepreneurs to conserve natural resources and ensure the long-term economic health of forest communities. In order for a farm or forestry enterprise to achieve Rainforest Alliance certification, or for a tourism business to be verified, it must meet rigorous standards designed to protect ecosystems, safeguard the well-being of local communities and improve productivity. The Rainforest Alliance then links these farmers, foresters and tourism businesses to the growing global community of conscientious consumers through the green frog seal.

Quality Deer Management Association (Canada)

We joined QDMA (QDMA) in 2012 to help learn more about deer habitat, nutrituion and behavior. The QDMA's mission is to ensure the future of white-tailed deer, wildlife habitat and our hunting heritage. Membership in the QDMA is open to anyone with an interest in the wise management of white-tailed deer. The time has come for all deer hunting enthusiasts, regardless of their choice of weapon or hunting technique, to unite and focus on the common thread that binds them all together - the love of deer hunting and the desire that future generation will be able to experience the great tradition of deer hunting.
